I'm sorry if I offended anyone when I cross-posted my 604C a week or so ago-I was in a fit of panicked purging and wanted quickly to clear some space. It wasn't a question of cash, I do OK.
Being 46- I guess that's mid-life by most measures- I see I am not far off what would qualify as someone observed for the show "Hoarders". My wife certainly thinks so.
I will post my next offering here first, and if it goes nowhere after a week or so then the auction site. Got a pair of 803B's with throats I might put up in the calcified ads.

Not to worry Jon, that show is sponsored by the Stepford Wives behind Better Homes and Gardens, the masters of conformism.

OG, your collection was never in question. You have a very good reason to have what you have.

My Q was inspired by a guitar "collector" I know... dozens of vintage Strats and Les Pauls just gathering dust, and the guy can't even play. All those voices silenced in the name of "collectability"...

    Will do.

I play rather badly, but did sell my old Strat to a British fellow who does play rather well- Thought he was going to have a stroke when he saw it, he is even older than me.

The Strat was younger than me, but only a couple years. Unfortunately the maple neck was so worn the only way for Fender to save it was to plane it and put on a rosewood fretboard. Plus refinished and all, but the work was done around 1968. The blue latex house paint on it when I bought it sucked.

Still was a heckuva nice player. I miss it.

Play an older customized to hell Korean strat now, "S" serial number built by Samick around 95 or so. And an old Yammy solid top acoustic from around 1980.

Got all excited, Found a pair of 417's cleaning up. Unfortunately both blown. Then I remembered they won't fit my dual 10 inch Fender amp anyway.

Gotta find a pair of 425's or K110's

Yeah that is gonna be my other motivation for downsizing. This stuff really should be used not just looked at.

I agree completely. How can we scratch our heads over the dearth of decent modern music, and at the same time sit on a pile of tools that could be in the hands of talent?

Additional food for thought. When Hoarders comes on, flip over to History Channel's American Pickers for a 180 POV... Trash or treasure is certainly in the eye of the beholder.

    Great point!

I probably own enough horns to get in the contest, but i haven't listened to a horn at home in several months. I'm having a hard time getting away from nearfield cones, domes, and fat class A power, something i never thought i'd like. I'm by no means a "convert", i'm just enjoying the fruits found along a different path for a while.:coffeedrinker:

    Re: Horniest board member?

I restore vintage motorcycles. After going through the arduous task of collecting the correct parts and the hours of labor finally recreating a classic beauty, it becomes much more than just another old motorcycle. It becomes a part of me that I have a great deal of trouble parting with.

After awhile though, I find I have run out of room to store these beauties. So, some must go. After awhile I find I enjoyed the journey (building) more than the destination (completion). Now I have found I would like to build speakers. I hope the same thing won't happen. Trying to locate vintage Altec horns has proven to be a similar task. I know there are horns out there just collecting dust when someone like me could be using them to bring a great sound back to life.

Please think about that the next time you look at something you will probably never use again. Sheese, I'll get off my soap box now...
